UEERL0004 Disconnect - reconnect electrical equipment connected to low voltage (LV) installation wiring
Course overview
This course will provide you with the skills and knowledge required to It includes preparing electrical equipment for disconnecting and then reconnecting equipment connected to LV installation wiring. It also includes inspecting and testing the reconnected electrical equipment for safe operation, identifying and reporting electrical faults and providing status reports. This must be incidental to a primary or regular function of the workplace.
You will develop the skills to safely disconnect and reconnect equipment such as composite appliances (air conditioners), water heaters and motors. It includes working safely, identifying supply arrangements, following isolation procedures, selecting and using testing and measuring devices, terminating and connecting cables and conductors, safely testing and reporting.
This course excludes disconnecting or reconnecting circuits at a switchboard or to general electrical accessories (including switches, socket outlets, circuit protective devices etc.); or installation of or alteration to any part of the fixed electrical wiring system (defined as electrical installing work).
This course does not cover rectifying faults.
Work associated with this unit is undertaken within the scope of:
- AS/NZS4836: 2001 Safe working on low voltage electrical installations
- local licensing requirements (Energy Safe Victoria)
This course will be delivered by Gastrain under a third party agreement. Details available upon request.
You are strongly advised to make application to Energy Safe Victoria prior to enrolling if you wish to complete this course and seek license in this area. Further information is available on the ESV website.
You should also create a user profile in ESVConnect to complete the eligibility checker and gain a letter for course acceptance.
It is also recommended that you have acquired language, literacy and numeracy skills equivalent to Level 4 of the Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF).
The following pre-requisite unit must be satisfied prior to commencement of the unit:
- UEECD0007 Apply work health and safety regulations, codes and practices in the workplace
Further information will be provided to assist you in completing the pre-requisite as part of confirmation of enrolment.
Course structure
This course is delivered over a seven (7) day period. The seven (7) days are broken into two blocks:
- first block is four (4) days
- second block is three (3) days
Approximately five (5) days after successful completion of the course, you may undertake an external practical exam assessed by Energy Safe Victoria (ESV) assessors to obtain their restricted electrical license (REL Class 2).

*In accordance with Standard 7 of the Standards for Registered Training Providers (RTOs) 2015 prepayment of course fees are not to exceed $1500 per learner. Where total course fees exceed this $1500 threshold, course fees will be due according to the following schedule:

Release of results and issuance of a Statement of Attainment is dependent upon all fees being paid.
Additional Regulator Exam Cost:
There will be an additional cost of $250.00 added to the course fee for the independent assessment as required by the regulator Energy Safe Victoria (ESV).
You will need to apply to ESV to receive the Restricted Electrical Worker’s license (Disconnect/Reconnect) (REL). Associated costs of the license are additional to the training and is managed by ESV. Current license fees are available on the ESV website.
Assessment arrangements
Assessment for this course requires you to:
- have completed prerequisite unit UEECD0007
- complete a theory assessment related to UEERL0004
- undertake practical assessment related to UEERL0004
External assessment
Approximately five (5) days after successful completion of the course, eligible you may undertake an external practical exam assessed by Energy Safe Victoria (ESV) assessors to obtain your restricted electrical license (REL Class 2).
Outcome
On successful completion of UEERL0004 Disconnect - reconnect electrical equipment connected to low voltage (LV) installation wiring and UEECD0007 Apply work health and safety regulations, codes and practices in the workplace you will be able to:
- Operate safely within the electrical working environment
- Comply with WHS practices when working with electricity
- Disconnect electrical equipment
- Reconnect electrical equipment
- Test the reconnected electrical equipment for safe operation
- Provide status report(s)
Course recognition
Successful completion of this course will entitle you to a Nationally Recognised Statement of Attainment for the unit/s undertaken.
