BSBESB402 Establish legal and risk management requirements of small business.
Course overview
This course provides you with the skill and knowledge required to identify and establish a range of business structures and to comply with the regulatory, legal, taxation and insurance requirements of establishing and running a small business.
To be eligible to enroll in the course you must either have completed all formal training in your apprenticeship or have been awarded the Certificate III in Plumbing or equivalent.
It is also recommended that you have attained language, literacy and numeracy skills equivalent to Level 3 and Level 4 of the Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF).
There are no prerequisite units.

Course structure
Course delivery will use a combination of face to face classroom training, flexible learning materials and self directed home based study.
- One (1) evening per week (3 hrs) for 10 weeks
- plus 30 hours self directed learning prior to/or during course attendance
Course duration
60 hours. Classes run from 5.30pm to 8.30pm.

Assessment arrangements
Unit assessment requires you to:
- complete task SMB401_1 – Case study on legal and administrative requirements
- complete task SMB401_2 – Industrial relations principles
- complete task SMB401_3 – Technical compliance
- complete task SMB401_4 – Growing the business SWOT analysis
Outcome
On successful completion of this course you will be able to:
- identify appropriate legal business structures to meet the requirements of small businesses in a plumbing context.
- recognise legal and regulatory requirements of small business.
- develop policies and procedures to ensure compliance with relevant legal and regulatory requirements of small business.
- arrange and negotiate contracts in the context of a small plumbing business
Course recognition
Upon successfully completing this course you will be entitled to a Nationally Recognised Statement of Attainment.
This unit is a core unit gazetted by the Victorian Building Authority for registered plumbers wanting to obtain registration in any of the plumbing classes. It is also an accredited unit of competency in CPC40912 Certificate IV in Plumbing and Services.
