CPCPCM4012 Estimate and cost work

Course overview

This unit provides you with the skills and knowledge required to estimate materials, labour and time requirements and to establish costs for the provision of services or products.

To be eligible to enroll in the course you must either have completed all formal training in your apprenticeship or have been awarded the Certificate III in Plumbing or equivalent.

It is also recommended that you have attained language, literacy and numeracy skills equivalent to Level 3 and Level 4 of the Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF).

There are no prerequisites for this unit.

Course structure

Course delivery will use a combination of face to face classroom training, flexible learning materials and self directed home based study.

15 hours of trainer led learning and assessment; one evening per week (3hrs) over five (5) weeks
plus 25 hours self directed learning prior to/or during course attendance.

Course duration

One evening per week for five (5) weeks. Classes run from 5.30pm to 8.30pm.

Assessment arrangements

Unit assessment requires learners to;

  • complete task CM4012_1 – Estimate and cost preparation
    • Part A - Understanding overhead/preliminary costs
    • Part B - Establishing a labour rate
    • Part C - Estimating overheads
    • Part D – Prepare a Scope of Works
  • complete task CM4012_2 – Estimate and cost a plumbing project
    • Part A - Contingency planning
    • Part B - Impacts of sustainability and WHS on estimating and costing plumbing work
    • Part C - Scope of works and estimating costs
  • complete task CM4012_3 – Estimate and cost a work based plumbing job
    • Full client quotation for plumbing job

Outcome

On successful completion you will be able to:

  • identify sources and gather information relevant to estimating and costing plumbing services
  • calculate materials, labour and time requirements to complete plumbing work using information sourced from work site or provided drawings and specifications, including the use of proprietary estimating software.
  • identify safety requirements relevant to plumbing work its affect on work methods and cost of completing work.
  • cost plumbing projects taking into account materials, labour, overhead costs, contingencies and required mark up percentages.
  • develop documentation relating to estimating, costing and presentation of tenders/quotation to client

Course recognition

Upon successfully completing this course you will receive a Nationally Recognised Statement of Attainment.

This unit is a core unit gazetted by the Victorian Building Authority for registered plumbers wanting to obtain registration in any of the plumbing classes. It is also an accredited unit of competency in CPC40912 Certificate IV in Plumbing and Services.
