CPCPGS4023 Install, commission and service Type B gas appliances

Course overview

This course covers the skills and knowledge to install, test, adjust, commission and service Type B gas appliances. Upon completion, you will be able to identify, diagnose and rectify system faults in Type B appliances.

This course is delivered by Gastrain under a third party agreement, details available upon request.

 

You must hold a restricted electrical workers licence

It is also recommended that you are able to demonstrate language, literacy and numeracy skills equivalent to Level 3 and Level 4 of the Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF).

To be eligible to register with the VBA in the Type B Gasfitting work, you must:

  • hold a Restricted Electrical Worker’s License
  • at a minimum, a Certificate III course that provides knowledge and competence in Type B Gasfitting work
  • have completed CPCPGS4023A  or CPCPGS4023 Install, commission and service Type B gas appliances, or demonstrate knowledge and competence equivalent to this unit of competency
  • successfully complete the VBA’s examination of registration competencies for Type B Gasfitting work.

To meet the VBA experience requirements, you must demonstrate practical experience that you were employed under supervision of a plumber who is licensed in Type B Gasfitting work for at least two years.

There are two pre-requisite units that must be completed to be awarded this unit. The units you must hold are:

  • CPCPCM2043 Carry out WHS requirements
  • UEERL0004 Disconnect-reconnect electrical equipment connected to low voltage (LV) installation wiring.

Master Plumbers has a Recognition of Current Competency (RCC) process that will assist you in providing evidence that you have acquired the necessary skills to satisfy entry into the course. Further information will be provided as part of the course confirmation process.

Course structure

Course delivery involves:

  • One hundred and twelve (112) hours of trainer led learning and assessment over a sixteen (16) day duration, being two (2) days a week over an eight week period.
  • plus approximately twenty six (26) hours self directed learning prior to/or during course attendance

Course duration

The program is 138 hours in duration.

Sessions run Thursday and Friday from 8.00am to 4.00pm.

*In accordance with Standard 7 of the Standards  for Registered Training Providers (RTOs) 2015 prepayment of course fees are not to exceed $1500 per learner. Where total course fees exceed this $1500 threshold, course fees will be invoiced according to the following schedule:

Release of results and issuance of a Statement of Attainment is dependent upon all  fees being paid.    

Assessment arrangements

Assessment for this course requires you to:

  • complete a theory assessment
  • undertake a practical assessment to install, commission and service Type B gas appliances
  • complete a written assignment; ‘Type B gas appliance submission’.

Course outcome

On successful completion of this course you will be able to:

  • follow safe work procedures relating to the installation, commissioning and servicing of Type B appliances
  • install Type B gas appliances
  • commission Type B gas appliances
  • service Type B gas appliances
  • identify and complete all relevant documentation.

Course recognition

Upon successfully completing this course you will receive a Nationally Recognised Statement of Attainment.

This unit is required by the Victorian Building Authority for registered\ licensed plumbers who wish to seek their license in the main class of Type B gasfitting work. It is an accredited unit of competency in CPC40920 Certificate IV in Plumbing and Services.
