Who are you?
Nicholas Kollaris – Melbourne District Plumbing

What sort of work do you do?
Commercial, residential and some civil works.

How long have you been in business?
Apprenticeship was started in commercial EBA sites. Worked on high-rise apartments and commercial buildings where I worked on most hydraulic services from basement suspended drains to gas and water manifolds. I went out on my own and started my business in 2014, working on new house builds, body corp maintenance and factory service installations.

What got you into the industry?
I was intrigued by the science of our works from how we get our water through pressure to flow and return hot water systems. Thinking outside the square was my forte.

What do you enjoy most about being a plumber and being part of the plumbing industry?
Becoming a member of like minded people that have an attention to detail.

Do you have any great achievements or stories about plumbing that you’d like to share?
For my former company we worked on McDonalds food stores that were getting built in a Melbourne factory and then split up and sent interstate. We would then fly to were the pods had been delivered via truck and begin to assemble the plumbing works for the stores. We learnt that each state had their own plumbing practices and we had to comply to their standards and do it with in a time frame. The pressure was on but our team was great and got the job done.

Are you on social media? What are your handles to follow?
Yes, I am beginning to add photos of our works and the culture of our team. Instagram Facebook

What’s your best bit of plumbing/business advice?
Start small and work your way up because the journey is always more rewarding than the end result.
