CPCPGS4022 Service Type A gas appliances

Course overview

This course will provide you with the skills and knowledge required to diagnose and repair faults on domestic and commercial Type A gas appliances.

Work associated with this unit is undertaken within the scope of AS/NZS 5601:2013 Part 1 Gas installations and local licensing requirements (gas, electrical and plumbing).

 

Learners must hold VBA gas fitting registration and/or license.

This course has pre-requisite units which must be satisfied to be awarded this unit. Refer to Pre-Requisite tab for further details.

It is recommended that you have acquired language, literacy and numeracy skills equivalent to Level 3 and Level 4 of the Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF).

To be eligible to register with the VBA in the Type A Appliance Servicing class, you must:

  • hold registration in the Gasfitting work class
  • have completed CPCPGS4022A or CPCPGS4022 Service Type A appliances, or demonstrate knowledge and competence equivalent to that unit of competency
  • successfully complete the VBA’s examination of registration competencies for Type A Appliance Servicing work.

There are two pre-requisite units that must be completed to be awarded this unit. The units you must hold are:

  • CPCPCM2043 Carry out WHS requirements
  • CPCPGS3053 Disconnect and reconnect Type A gas appliances

Master Plumbers has a Recognition of Current Competency (RCC) process that will assist you in providing evidence that you have acquired the necessary skills to satisfy entry into the course. Further information will be provided as part of the course confirmation process.

Course structure

Course delivery involves:

  • One hundred and fourteen (114) hours of trainer-led learning and assessment over a fifteen (15) day duration, being three (3) days a week every fortnight over a ten (10) week period.
  • plus approximately sixty six (66) hours self directed learning prior to/or during course attendance

Course duration

The program is 180 hours in duration. Sessions run from 8:00am to 4.00pm.

*In accordance with Standard 7 of the Standards for Registered Training Providers (RTOs) 2015 prepayment of course fees are not to exceed $1500 per learner. Where total course fees exceed this $1500 threshold, course fees will be invoiced according to the following schedule:

Assessment arrangements

Assessment for this course requires you to:

  • complete a theory assessment
  • undertake a practical assessment to disassemble, reassemble, diagnose and remedy gas system faults on multiple Type A gas appliances
  • undertake a practical assessment to convert a Type A gas appliance to operate on another gas type.

External assessment

The VBA will conduct an external assessment for those learners who wish to receive endorsement on their plumbing license in Type A gas appliance servicing. Assessment will occur on the final day of the training program. A payment of $191.20 is payable to the VBA for the assessment.

Outcome

On successful completion of this course you will be able to:

  • Apply safety and quality assurance requirements and demonstrate effective work methods relevant to Type A gas appliances
  • Disassemble and assemble Type A gas appliances
  • Diagnose and remedy electrical and electronic circuitry faults
  • Diagnose and remedy gas system faults on Type A gas appliances
  • Convert Type A gas appliances to another gas type
  • Identify and complete all relevant documentation.

Course recognition

Upon providing evidence of satisfying all pre-requisite units and successfully completing this course you will receive a Nationally Recognised Statement of Attainment.

This unit is required by the Victorian Building Authority for registered\licensed plumbers who wish to seek endorsement in the specialised class of Type A appliance servicing work. It is an accredited unit of competency in CPC40920 Certificate IV in Plumbing and Services.
