CPD Frequently Asked Questions
Find out more about the Master Plumbers CPD program.
Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is the recognition of ongoing learning and training. CPD is how plumbers can maintain, improve and broaden their knowledge, expertise and competence. As standards and regulations change, new technology is available and business requirements vary, following a CPD schedule will assist you in keeping up-to-date in this ever-changing industry.
CPD activities can include attending training courses, presentations, reading trade magazines, attending industry events and conferences or doing online research.
CPD is currently voluntary. However, the Victorian Government is due to announce mandatory CPD for all plumbers soon and now is a great time to get a head start and begin tracking your points, logging new ones, and accessing the many training and development opportunities available to you.
We highly encourage all plumbers to participate in Master Plumbers CPD program.
The CPD program works on an annual cycle from 1 July to 30 June (the Master Plumbers membership period). Participants will be asked to earn 12 CPD points each year to meet the requirements.
Attendance at any Master Plumbers events will be automatically recorded on your member account, and external courses can be added manually.
For a list of approved courses and the points they earn, visit our CPD library.
We highly encourage all plumbers, including those working in our member businesses to participate in Master Plumbers CPD program. While CPD is currently voluntary, the Victorian Government is due to announce mandatory CPD for all plumbers soon and now is a great time to get a head start and begin tracking your points, logging new ones, and accessing the many training and development opportunities available to you.
You can choose your preferred activities from a range of ‘approved’ CPD activities:
- Each year, you can earn up to four CPD points from ‘self directed learning activities’ such as reading technical solution sheets from VBA, reading trade publications or completing online training from manufacturers
- The remaining 8 points per year need to be attained from ‘approved’ attendance based learning, such as post-apprenticeship training run by organisations like Master Plumbers, CEPUTEC, Fire Industry Training, RMIT or training by manufacturers. Attendance at selected industry meetings, expos or conferences can also count as attendance based learning.
Our CPD library shows the activities which our industry-based CPD Advisory Committee has approved. We are consistently adding more learning opportunities to the library to ensure a diverse range of activities are on offer.
Different types of learning earn different points. All approved courses and how many points they attract can be found in the CPD Library.
