CPCPGS4011 Design and size consumer gas installations
Course overview
This course will enable you to design, size and document the layout of consumer gas installations that feature;
- operating pressures of up to 200kPa
- fluing, ventilation and installation requirements
- NG and LPG installations
- domestic and commercial installations
- caravan and marine installations.
This work may be done in multi storied buildings and/or multiple buildings supplied through one gas source.
It covers preparing for the work, identifying and confirming system requirements, design system layout and work finalisation processes, including documentation.
You must hold Gas registration.
It is recommended that you have acquired language, literacy and numeracy skills equivalent to Level 3 and Level 4 of the Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF).
There are no prerequisite units for this unit.

Duration
60 Hours. Classes run from 5.30pm to 8.30pm.
Course structure
Course delivery involves:
- 42 hours of trainer led learning and assessment over 14 weeks, one (1) evening per week
- plus approximately 18 hours self directed learning prior to/or during course attendance.

Assessment Arrangements
Assessment for this course requires you to:
- complete a theory assessment
- undertake four (4) practical assessment related to the design, sizing and lay out of consumer gas installations.
External Assessment
The VBA external assessment for the Gas license will be held at the completion of the course for those who wish to undertake it.
An additional cost is payable to the VBA for this examination.
Course outcome
On successful completion of this course you will be able to:
- prepare for design work
- identify system requirements for consumer gas installations
- plan and design the system layout for various consumer gas installations
- apply relevant safety, quality assurance and sustainability requirements
- identify and complete all relevant documentation.
Course recognition
Upon successfully completing this course you will receive a Nationally Recognised Statement of Attainment.
This unit is required by the Victorian Building Authority for registered plumbers who wish to seek their license in the main class of Gasfitting. It is an accredited unit of competency in CPC40920 Certificate IV in Plumbing and Services.
