Proposed changes to the AS/NZS3500 suite of standards

You may be aware that the suite of AS/NZS3500 standards are undergoing a review and have recently been through a public comment phase.

The process will now include a full review of the comments received on the draft and any changes that are the results of that process.

Proposed changes to the AS/NZS3500 suite of standards

Master Plumbers have made comment back on several of the proposed changes which can be summarised as;

  • Master Plumbers was not in favour of removing what we consider valuable information from these installation standards to be relocated in the national Construction Code. For example, cross connection examples.
  • Master Plumbers was not in favour of a mandatory requirements for mechanical flexible connectors for underslab sanitary drains
  • Master Plumbers was not in favour of changes to increasing the entry on grade to a 100mm sanitary drain junction to a minimum of 15 degrees particularly due to the lack of space in sub floor drainage changes.

A summary of these changes and the standard it applies to is listed in this document.

Questions or queries on the standards can be directed to the Master Plumbers technical department.
